Resilience: Survive and Thrive is a simulation game about the relationships between economic development and climate change resilience. In the game, you are community leaders that are competing to have the most developed community. However, the communities are located in the same region and share natural resources and the environment. Too much unchecked development can lead to environmental destruction which puts every community at a higher risk from extreme weather events. You must cooperate in maintaining the environment but compete in having the most developed community. The player with the most developed community at the end of the game is the winner. The game was designed to be an educational tool for community leaders and students.
Resilience: Survive and Thrive was developed in 2014 as a collaboration between Balangay Entertainment and the UP Marine Science Institute under the Biodiversity and Resilience Project (BaRC2). The aim of BaRC2 was to create layman materials about the research of the MSI scientists. 4,000 copies of RST were printed and distributed to different advocacies, educators, and coastal universities across the Philippines. RST was also accepted and presented at the World Environmental Educational Congress 2015 (WEEC2015) held in Gothenburg, Sweden. The game's commercial license is currently being processed in preparation for bringing the game to the market.
